My Practice

I’m Amy, an accredited Integrative & Humanistic Psychotherapist with UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), based in County Durham, North East England.

Being an integrative therapist simply means I use a range of theoretical models and tailor them to your needs. I use a wide range of modalities to enrich our work together, but ultimately it is the therapeutic relationship which anchors the therapy and supports healing.

I have worked within the sector for a total of 6 years, serving diverse communities within primary care and charity settings. I trained at the Northern Guild and hold a Post Graduate Diploma in Adult Psychotherapeutic Counselling and Adult Psychotherapy.

Life transitions can often bring about shifts in how we perceive ourselves and our place in the world. My special interests include grief, trauma, PTSD, relational issues, neurodiversity and working with the LGBTQIA+ community.

Therapy can aid your self-awareness, help you to move towards acceptance, and ultimately make the changes you want in life. My practice is trauma informed and underpinned by a commitment to meet you where you are, in this moment.

  • Transactional analysis allows you to explore complex relationship dynamics through an easy-to-understand framework. Understanding these dynamics, allows you to change harmful relational patterns and form healthier relationships.

  • Derived from psychoanalysis, psychodynamic therapy gives you the space to explore unconscious patterns from your past and consider how they might be impacting you now. Working psychodynamically, I will used our therapeutic relationship to help you build insight into your own process and defences.

  • Attachment theory is a developmental theory that teaches us about the importance of safe and secure bonds with others. Our early attachment patterns to our caregivers influences our adult relationships. Understanding these attachment styles can help us develop healthier relationships in all aspects of our lives.

  • Gestalt therapy focuses on working with your here and now experience. It is interactive and allows you to explore how physical sensations relate to your emotional experience. Gestalt therapy encourages you to experiment with new ways in being in and outside of the therapy room.

  • Working in a trauma informed way, means that I integrate my professional understanding of how traumatic events may have impacted you. I will consider your safety in all aspects of the work and focus on rebalancing dysregulation in your nervous system. This can help you to process traumatic experiences and create new meaning out of your experience.

At present I offer online individual sessions for adults across the UK. Working online can make therapy accessible and convenient for you. If you are considering working with me online, please be aware you need a private, safe space for our sessions.

Therapy isn’t always easy. It takes courage to hold a mirror up and challenge the stories we tell ourselves about who we are. Contact me to book in an assessment session, where we can discuss your needs and explore if I am the right person to effectively support you on your journey.
